Cordova v. John Doe – Order Denying Ex Parte Application for Early Discovery; Granting Stat (N.D. Cal. 25-cv-05207-DMR)

Order entered July 11, 2025, by Chief Magistrate Judge Donna M. Ryu denying Christopher J. Cordova’s ex parte application for early discovery in his copyright case against the operator of the Destination2Truth channel (www.youtube.com/@Destination2Truth). The Court found Cordova had not shown good cause to depart from normal discovery procedures because he failed to establish personal jurisdiction over the Doe defendant in the Northern District of California. While denying early discovery, the Court granted Cordova’s alternative request to stay the case so he could pursue a separate § 512(h) subpoena proceeding. A status report is due January 7, 2026.
